Christ Church |
Welcome, guest! |
We the people of Christ Church affirm and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ by worship and action, care and nurturing of each other, seeking and serving Christ in all people, deepening our faith, growing in number and stewardship and reaching out in ministry to the wider community.
There are many opportunities to reach out into the community at Christ Church. We understand our outreach to be part of our commitment as baptized persons as we promise in baptism to "seek and serve Christ in all people", and to "strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human person". For more information on any of these ministries, please call the church office at 937-323-8651 or send us an email.
Food Pantry: The Christ Church food pantry is open every Wednesday from 1pm-3pm. No appointment is necessary and we can serve a client every three months. Enough food for 3 months is given for every member in the household. Volunteers are needed to interview clients, fill out paperwork, and bag groceries.
Interfaith Hospitality Network: Every 7 weeks, all of our program space is turned into living space for a week for up to 16 people who live here as they seek jobs and permanent housing. Volunteers are needed to set up and tear down the rooms at the beginning and end of the week, prepare dinner for our guests, and serve as overnight hosts. Our church partners in this ministry at St. Raphael's Roman Catholic Church, New Fair Street Church, and Oakland Presbyterian Church.
Special Class: Our special class is made up of residents of the Mueller Center, a residential facility for mentally handicapped adults. This class meets every Sunday through out the program year for Christian Education and worship.
Tutoring Ministry: Christ Church provides tutors for the after-school programs at the Ark and the Rock, for elementary and high school students respectively. The Ark and the Rock are located just down the street from Christ Church at the corner of Linden Avenue and Selma Road.
Sack Lunch Ministry: In an effort to ensure that the children in the Christ Church neighborhood do not go without food on the days that there is no school due to a holiday, teacher inservice, etc., the members of Christ Church make sack lunches and take them into the neighborhood at lunch time.
RAFTERS (Respect, Accept, Forgive, Teach): An after school program (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5:00 PM during the school year) for "at-risk" 6th graders. this program is in cooperation with Forging Responsible Youth, Forging Responsible Youth serves children who face such obstacles as incarcerated parents, parents with drug or alcohol addiction, poverty, illiteracy or abuse. RAFTERS provides a safe environment where children can receive help with homework, get a healthy snack, receive hygiene products and tutoring in math and reading.
If you would like to sponsor a child for this program, the cost is $20.00 per month. That $20 helps tp cover the cost of the program for a single child. Each month information on the child will be mailed to the sponsor along with a donation envelope for the next month. For more information about the RAFTERS program, or to inquire about sponsoring a child, call the church office at 937-323-8651.
Parish Health Care Ministry: This is a new ministry at Christ Episcopal Church. This ministry seeks to promote wellness among its members.
