Christian Education at Christ Church
Christ Episcopal Church

Christ Church offers Christian Formation for everybody.  Christian Formation for Children and Adults begins on the first Sunday, following Labor Day and runs until the Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day.

During the Formation period, Sunday School starts shortly after Holy Communion during the 10 AM service and lasts until noon. Adult Formation starts shortly after the end of the service (you have time to get a cup of coffee and a snack) and also lasts until noon.

Children's Classes (Ages 3 - 10)

Children are instructed using the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, an innovative approach to religious education honoring the spiritual potential of the child using the Montessori method and presentation about Jesus' life teachings.  Click here to learn more about the Catechisis of the Good Shepherd.

Each week, the children gather in two atria - beautifully prepared spaces with age-appropriate materials for them to work with and a special time each week to gather around a table in prayer. This program is divided into two levels.

  • Level I (Ages 3-6): This part of the program is the "Good Shepherd" atrium. Here children are invited to fall in love with Jesus, our Good Shepherd. The children hear stories about Jesus' life and parables of the kingdom. They learn about liturgy through hands-on materials.
  • Level II (Ages 7-10): This part of the program is the "True Vine" atrium. Here children follow a timeline to discover the vast history of God's pan and our place in it. Children in this atrium also look at Jesus' maxims and the moral parables as they learn to live as followers of Jesus. Further meditation on the sacraments, especially Baptism and Eucharist are also part of the Level II cirriculum.

Middle (Grades 5-8) and High School (Grades 9-12)

These groups gather on Sunday morning for food, fellowship and spiritual growth. Both groups will spend their time studying the Bible, discussing social issues and developing a service project.

Adult Formation

Adult formation will include a focus on our church history (given our 175th anniversary commemoration), a journey into the Old Testament, a Spring half-day retreat and a short series on Christian-themed poetry and literature. Details about these offerings are coming soon, and we hope you be able to participate in many of them.
